Developed a proficiency in PHP, Smarty, CSS3, JavaScript, and jQuery. Converted custom designs into full web applications and stores. Continued to refine my focus to strict customization of X-Cart's code base for anyone wanting to change how their store works. I also work with MySQL on a daily basis, maintaining and backing up databases as well as writing and optimizing queries. Moving more and more to progressive enhancement for optimal speed and stability. Developed an appreciation for gamification to improve user experience. Always on the lookout for new techniques and how they can be used to make sites faster, easier to maintain, and fun.
Proficiencies: PHP, Smarty, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, MySQL, X-Cart, and WordPress.
After a few years of playing SysAdmin, I moved to a division which worked on internal tools, some of which were web based. Since I was the resident sysadmin I was given the task of setting up some servers, cleaning up internal web pages, and eventually became webmaster to some of these servers. Then I was tasked with writing a new internal web application using Mason. After not knowing whether to choose programming or webmaster as a career, I finally found I could have the best of both worlds developing web applications. Developed an appreciation for OOP and version control while pushing my expertise in Perl and JavaScript. Custom built Apache for specific applications.
After working in Aol's NOC for a short time, I was made the technical lead of the NOC's hardware station which monitored and maintained the sysadmin and hardware operation of all of Aol's servers across three datacenters. Worked directly with HP, Sun, and other vendors to maintain and repair systems. Received in-depth training from Sun, HP, RedHat, and Aol in all facets of system administration as well as shell and Perl programming. Extensive training of NOC staff on system administration and networking.
Started as technical support for Windows, DOS, and Mac clients, developing customer service and team lead skills before moving on to online chat support. Later became a member of second level support, temporary supervisor, and a member of a delegation to represent member services to the technical leaders at headquarters. Promoted to lead a new member services team at Aol's NOC.
Proficiencies: web programming, interface design, and server administration; Perl Mason team technical lead; JavaScript; SysAdmin; networking; SQL; and customer support.
